The Kings of Leon Tour in 2011
When I first heard the Kings of Leon’s “Sex on Fire”, I thought they were a band from the UK. The three brothers and one cousin who share the same last name of Followill, started their band in Tennessee. Since April of 2007, Kings of Leon have played over 135 concerts overseas.
In May 2011, the rockers will jam at the Slane Castle in Ireland. The castle grounds can handle 80,000 people, a place where other mega stars like U2, The Rolling Stones, Madonna, Guns N Roses, Queen and David Bowie have performed. The band played small club-type venues like Webster Hall in New York City, but since their Grammy win for Record of the Year in 2010 for “Use Somebody”, they are now able to pack in the people in larger venues across Europe and the United States.
They have appeared in an intimate setting at the House of Blues in Cleveland, at the massive Wembley Stadium in London, the infamous Madison Square Garden in NYC, the versatile and beautiful Palladium in Germany, the almost-forgotten Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit, and Australia’s ACER Arena in Sydney to name a few. Kings of Leon have played in Canada and over 180 concerts in the U.S.
They like to play in music festivals around the world and this year they will be at the Isle of Wight Festival in UK, Pinkpop in Holland, Peace & Love Festival in Sweden, Rock Werchter 2011 in Belgium, and Roskilde Festival in Denmark. They have also participated in famous festivals in North America like Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza & Coachella. Their March 2011 tour dates have been pushed back until November due to the drummer’s upper arm muscle surgery so that he can fully recover.
The band has not had a concert at the United Center in Chicago, River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires, Olympic Stadium in Rome or Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles but this band is still hot and growing strong. The band’s song “Radioactive” has been nominated for two Grammys and we will find out February 13th if they win in the Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and for Best Rock Song.
